All-New Skill Drills: Take on an army of tackling dummies in an all-new skill drills mini-game designed to teach you the game of football.Quickly react, create mismatches, and exploit opponent weaknesses before every play All-New Read and React System: New player skill icons identify on-field strengths and weaknesses, providing an immediate read on what your opponent is giving you.The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is I haven't enough experience of other versions of Madden to know whether there are things I'm missing from this one - but it's fine for me anyway. Heck, I'm even reading a book that goes into the different offensive and defensive plays a little! I'm looking forward to continuing to learn alongside my Green Bay players. Overall, so far, it's giving me hours of fun and was well worth me buying. However, the skill practices and things like the 'Two Minute Warning' drill in Madden 08 is helping me get used to the controls and I've been able to practice running and passing plays as well as playing an experimental game or two at 'Rookie' level. I'm not a sports game fan generally: for instance I tried, but gave up with, one of the EA Fifa games, mainly I think because the sideways viewpoint didn't suit me. I was concerned it might prove too complex. I've only just started learning Madden 08 having had it for a week. The Be A Pro game is great fun but nigh on impossible without a console-style controller (how can you scan the field as a quarterback with Ctrl+Left/Right when you have 900lbs of defensive line bearing down on you? Pretty big error to miss there.) It's a shame that these rosters are now four years out of date and there's no quick, easy way of updating them but I guess that's how EA want to treat their customers it's fine having an exclusive license when you put out a product, but not doing so is appalling.Īll in all this game is brilliant fun but really needs updating, four years out of date is unacceptable.Īs someone getting back into watching and going to American Football regularly (I first started liking the game in the 1970's), I decided to buy this to see whether I could get some enjoyment out of playing a computer game version of the sport. However if all you want to do is chuck a pigskin around the field and win it all then this game is brilliant fun. For example, the franchise mode is brilliant and after a few years you find yourself becoming attached to that seventh-round draft pick out of Backwater, Missourah that just caught the ball that sends you to the playoffs but it does lack some degree of personalisation: all stadiums you rebuild will look identical, and the default custom team logos are really, really shoddy. This game has everything any football fan could ever want, although in varying levels of detail. If you like football, you will love Madden.
